Grand Opening Event, Ribbon Cutting Mark Opening Of Baptist Emergency Hospital-Zarzamora In San Antonio

Grand Opening to Include Free Food, Live Music and Hospital Tours

SAN ANTONIO – Oct. 17, 2016 – A free community event and ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 29 celebrates the grand opening of the newest Baptist Emergency Hospital, a two-story hospital serving residents in the South San Antonio area – an area whose health care needs have been underserved for more than 30 years.

The nearly 40,000-square-foot micro-hospital is being built through a partnership of San Antonio-based Baptist Health System and Emerus Hospitals, the nation’s first and largest operator of micro-hospitals. Featuring a state-of-the-art emergency department, inpatient beds, advanced imaging center and an ambulatory service center, it will be staffed by board-certified physicians who are dedicated to providing the same compassionate care that have made Baptist Health System one of the nation’s leading health care systems.

As part of the grand opening week celebration, Baptist Health System and Emerus are sponsoring the community event from noon to 4 p.m., Oct. 29 at the Zarzamora location, 7719 IH 35 South. The free, family friendly celebration will include live music – featuring the San Antunes, free food trucks, bounce houses, a photo booth, face painters and giveaways. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tours of the micro-hospital will be given throughout the day. For more information, visit BaptistEmergencyHospital.com/events.

“We are pleased to continue working with the Baptist Health System to improve access to medical care,” said David Stillwell, COO of Emerus. “Not only are they a trusted name in the San Antonio region, together we can meet the medical needs of families in the Zarzamora area in the convenience of their own neighborhood. It’s a way for us to deliver comprehensive and innovative, yet affordable, health care solutions.”

David Mitchell, interim regional CEO for Baptist Emergency Hospital, said, “This new micro-hospital will have an immediate positive impact on the community. We are proud to be offering specialized emergency medical care where the residents need it the most, close to home.”

“Bringing health care services to the people who need them most is one of the most important things we can do as health care providers,” said Graham Reeve, President and CEO of Baptist Health System. “This new emergency hospital will provide fast access to critical care for people living in south San Antonio and Bexar County.”

San Antonio-based commercial contractor F.A. Nunnelly developed the new facility. With the addition of Zarzamora, Baptist Emergency Hospital now has six convenient locations throughout the San Antonio area including Hausman, Overlook, Thousand Oaks, Westover Hills, Schertz. A seventh location, NW Military, will be opening soon at 4103 North Loop, 1604 West.
